Seed collecting

Aquilegia vulgaris (common columbine)

It’s an excellent time to collect seed now, while the weather is dry, I was given these beautiful columbines from ‘Bobs Flowers’ near Craven Arms. Bob Lewis, a friend and knowledgable nurseryman, collected the seed himself the year before. He noticed a particularly spectacular plant among his collection.

Lots of plants are easily propagated from collected seed and you always have the chance of finding new hybrid in your collection.

More good advice and information on seed collecting can be found here courtesy of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
